The Stichting Nederlands Albert Schweitzer Fonds (NASF) or Dutch Albert Schweitzer Foundation supports small scale health related development initiatives, predominantly in Africa. The development policy behind these initiatives is based primarily on the philosophic and ethical beliefs of Albert Schweitzer, founded upon his principle A Reverence for Life. In practice the organisation actively supports any individuals, groups and initiatives that demonstrate a clear effort to improve the quality of life around them, indiscriminately in the same way that Albert Schweitzer did throughout his life. The NASF actively contributes to these small scale initiatives by providing starting capital, otherwise known as a ‘micro gifts’, in order to provide the recipient with the chance of building both hope and respect in the community around them.

In addition to this development support, the Dutch Albert Schweitzer Foundation aims to actively bring the message of Albert Schweitzer, his ethics and his unique vision into the world of development wherever possible. It is the steadfast belief of the NASF that these teachings of Albert Schweitzer’s are both timeless and immediate in their relevance to todays global society and that his motto A Reverence for Life, and his story can be as valuable an inspiration today as they have been for past generations.
