Safe gynecological care with Chloe GTM – Kenia

Dinsdag 10 februari 2026

Through this project, healthcare providers in Kenya are trained to perform essential gynecological procedures safely and humanely, using the Chloe Gynecological Training Model: an affordable, portable practice model. In many clinics, nurses and doctors often have to perform intimate procedures for the first time

on real patients without sufficient practical training. This leads to unnecessary pain, anxiety, and sometimes unsafe care. With Chloe, healthcare providers can practice repeatedly in a controlled setting, building skills, confidence, and routine. This ensures that women receive safer and more dignified care.

Project

In Kenya and other African countries, healthcare providers often perform gynecological procedures without sufficient hands-on training. This project introduces the Chloe training model: a compact, affordable training tool that allows nurses and doctors to practice safely. This improves the quality of care and reduces unnecessary suffering.

Goal

The project produces and distributes Chloe training models and organizes practical training courses in Kenya. At least 25 medical training institutions will receive multiple models, and trainers will be trained using a train-the-trainer approach. This will create a sustainable structure for ongoing skills training in gynecological care.

Results

  • 75 Chloe training models produced and deployed in Kenya
  • Training courses conducted in at least 25 medical training institutions
  • Train-the-trainer team set up for nationwide scaling up
  • Better, safer, and more humane care for women in clinics

Gezondheidspionier Karlheinz Samenjo

Dr. Karlheinz Samenjo is a researcher at Delft University of Technology (Industrial Design Engineering) and founder of Chloe Innovations within the Inclusive Global Health Lab. From his experience in Kenya, he saw how healthcare providers sometimes perform intimate gynecological procedures on real patients for the first time, without any opportunity to practice. He therefore developed an affordable and portable training model that reinforces practical skills and protects women from unnecessary pain and unsafe care.
